CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN Fitchburg Dog Festival 2023 - Celebrating 5 years!

  • Fitchburg Dog Park 198 Townsend Street Fitchburg, MA, 01420 United States (map)

Dear Vendors and Supporters of the Fitchburg Dog Festival,

Thank you for your commitment and consideration to support our Fitchburg Dog Festival this year. Our volunteer team wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support of our community dog park and pet parent community.

After careful consideration and monitoring of the weather forecast this weekend, our planning team has regrettably decided to cancel the Fitchburg Dog Festival scheduled for Saturday August 26, 2023. The forecast predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms that could compromise the safety and enjoyment of both attendees and our vendor participants.

We understand the dedication and effort you have put into preparing for the event, and we share your disappointment in not being able to bring the festival to fruition this year. The Fitchburg Dog Festival is built on the collective efforts of volunteers, our pet community friends and our supporting businesses, who have consistently demonstrated a passion for our community and our favorite dogs. We are incredibly grateful and look forward to the possibility of collaborating again in the future.

As we continue to prioritize the well-being of our community, we hope for your understanding and support in this difficult decision. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us by email at fitchburgdogpark@gmail.com

We remain committed to fostering a vibrant and united dog park and festival that celebrates our furry friends and pet parent community.

Please contact us by replying to this email if you wish us to refund any vendor donations made for dog festival attendance.

Warm regards,

Fitchburg Dog Festival Planning Team

Trooper Chad Tata of the EAU is Luna’s handler. Luna lives with Trooper Tata and his family and goes to work with him every day. She will be used to reduce stress and promote wellness and healing for first responders and their families after a traumatic incident, and Luna will also be working with civilian victims and survivors. A gentle, docile and playful dog, she brings a comforting presence and commands smiles in any room she enters.

“Luna is the first ever comfort dog to serve with the Massachusetts State Police and she is a welcome addition to our fundamental mission — to help people in need,” said Colonel Kerry Gilpin. “We know all too well the devastating effects of traumatic stress, and we are fortunate to have Luna available to first responders, their family members, and other victims in need of support.”

  • K9 Odin & Sergeant Morreale from Fitchburg State University Police Dept

The newest member of the Fitchburg State University Police Department has a lot in common with his fellow officers - he’s friendly, hard-working, approachable, and knows how to follow orders. But this officer runs on four legs.

Odin, an English Labrador “recruited” by Officer Erin Morreale, formally joined the FSU Police department as a comfort dog in Fall of 2021.

For crisis response, she explained, Odin would be summoned to help calm participants or witnesses who had been through a traumatic experience

Celebrating National Dog Day 2023 August 26th!

National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, pure and mixed and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.
